2221 Sq Ft – Completed 2005
This passive and active solar home was the first to reach a Gold Certification level in the HealthyBuilt Home program based in the North Carolina Solar Center.
This home achieved a 93 HERS rating and is considered to be 65% more efficient then a house built to the then current NC Building Code. The home was built with autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) block, has a high level of ceiling insulation (R-38), solar hot water and many other green features. The home is heated with a radiant floor system with many zones provided for occupant comfort. Passive solar design provides half of the homes heating needs. Additionally, a 2.0 KW solar electric system was also installed as part of the project work.
