Throughout the design and construction process care was taken with both aesthetic and green detailing. Besides the passive solar design and solar hot water system, the home, was optimized for summer cooling with radiant barrier roof sheathing, nighttime cooling utilizing decorative concrete flooring (with tile inset), and substantial insulation in the ceiling. Formaldehyde-free blown insulation was installed in the walls. A highly efficient, air tight wood burning fireplace was installed with a surrond of tile and American Clay non-toxic stucco. Dual flush toilets were installed in all bathrooms. The screen porch provides westerly shading and the front entry is positioned to provide relief from summer heat as well as a good view.
